A Cambridge graduate in history and history of art, with an early career in finance in the City and 10 years at Sotheby’s, I research and deliver site-based tours and courses in English history and architecture.

I believe the best way to engage with history and architectural styles is to experience the buildings and objects themselves. So my teaching takes place at historic buildings and museums.

In addition to my annual spring course, ‘A Brief History of Architecture in London.’ and bespoke tours, I give regular tours at the Victoria and Albert Museum.

I am a trustee of the 1000-year-old Fulham Palace, undergoing major restoration work supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund. For eight years until recently I was a trustee of the Churches Conservation Trust, which maintains over 300 of England’s historic redundant churches. Before having children I was acting director of the Phoenix Trust, one of The Prince of Wales’s charities that rescues and finds new uses for historic buildings.
